Position Summary

The Sales Manager serves as a staff member of ACSI dba Purposeful Design Publications (PDP) and is responsible for annual growth attained through retention and new business implementing strategies, processes, and procedures for all sales activity for PDP, including management of and accountability for the Educational Resource Consultants (ERC).

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develops and clearly communicates a sales philosophy with accompanying strategies and action plans that produces annual growth for PDP as directed by the strategic and financial plans of the Association
  • Develops and implements strategies for retention and upselling of current customers
  • Develops and implements strategies for the acquisition of new business within the ACSI membership market
  • Develops and implements strategies for the acquisition of new business in markets outside of the ACSI membership
  • Develops and implements strategies for collaboration with ACSI regional offices to better serve ACSI member schools with both products and school services
  • In collaboration with PDP leadership, establishes quarterly and annual goals for the sales staff consistent with the strategic plan and financial goals of the Association
  • Prepares an annual budget for sales, including both expenditures and projected revenue
  • Clearly communicates sales goals to the ERCs with a performance plan for goal attainment
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of ERCs based on clearly articulated expectations and metrics
  • Provides day-to-day management for all activities of the ERCs
  • Prepares activity and results reports, such as daily calls, weekly work plans, travel schedules, and monthly, quarterly, and annual territory analyses
  • Regularly works with each ERC to provide supportive guidance as well as ensure adherence to established goals, procedures and processes
  • Provides ongoing training in both product knowledge and professional development for ERCs
  • Develops and implements a process for lead qualification
  • Schedules and leads regular meetings of the ERCs, providing relevant and job-enriching information as well as inspiration and motivation
  • Works with the Finance and Human Resources departments to provide incentive plans for ERCs
  • Develops a procedures and guidelines manual for the sales program of the Association
  • Works collaboratively with the Marketing Department to develop marketing plans for PDP
  • Collaborates with IT on all sales technology initiatives
  • Works collaboratively with the Textbook Training and Development Coordinator and the Assessment Coordinator in support of schools using PDP textbooks and the ACSI Student Assessment Program
  • Works collaboratively with the regional offices to maximize sales and service opportunities for member schools
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Experience and Education

  • Seven or more years of proven experience in sales; education sales preferred
  • Three or more years of successful experience in supervision of a sales team
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sales, Marketing, Business, Education or a related field; Master’s degree with a Sales emphasis preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong working knowledge of CRM systems
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong training and presentation skills
  • Results-oriented in effectively leading a sales team
  • Knows what to do when performance deviates from the plan and executes corrective measures

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% by plane or automobile
  • Driver’s License required to be kept current and in effect as a condition of employment
  • Employee is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, and talk and hear
  • Essential duties require the use of computers to process information
  • The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to read at close range and distinguish colors and contrasts
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal
