Summary: The Pastor of First Baptist Church of Theodore will be a motivated self starter who loves The Lord and His people and works with the congregation to create a close fellowship of believers and to reach our community for Christ. He shall be a knowledgeable teacher who enables persons to learn and understand deep spiritual truths. He shall be a capable counselor available to assist individuals with personal and spiritual problems. He should emphasize evangelism and the importance of lifestyle witnessing- putting feet on our faith.
The Pastor is called by the church to provide spiritual leadership, to lead in the Worship Services, and to make appropriate administrative recommendations to the Active Deacon Body. The Pastor is expected to minister to the Church membership by giving Christian guidance to Church families, by providing support to Church families in time of grief, illness, death, birth and weddings etc.
Background: First Baptist Church of Theodore is led administratively by committees and the Active Deacon Body. The Active Deacon Body makes key business decisions as well as serving as a ministry group. The Pastor together with the Active Deacon Body defines and communicates the vision and priorities of the church.
Currently our worship style is primarily traditional with an occasional hint of blended style.
Mission Statement: The members of First Baptist Church of Theodore recognize Jesus Christ as Savior, The Holy Bible as the inspired word of God and agree to love and worship Christ, witness to the unsaved, minister to others, educate ourselves and cooperate in fellowship with one another and with other churches.

Requirements
– An active growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
– Lead the congregation in meaningful worship services, making the gospel relevant to peoples lives through clarity in preaching and communicating a comprehensive understanding of The Bible and Christian theology.
– Pastoral experience.
– An ordained, licensed Southern Baptist Minister.
– A Bachelors degree from an accredited university or Southern Baptist Seminary. Masters of Divinity strongly preferred.
– Be a person of compassion and be able to demonstrate love to all people.
– Administer the ordinances of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper.
– Promotes increasing attendance and membership in Sunday School and worship services.
– Must have a heart to grow the congregation.
Expectations
– Visits people in the midst of crisis (i.e., death, sickness, trauma or significant other events) as well as those members who are home bound, where pastoral care is required, demonstrating warmth, openness and sensitivity to the needs of those involved. (One example would be administering The Lord’s Supper to a home bound member.)
– A strong work ethic worth an eye for detail.
– Good planning and organizational skills.
– Experience in initiating, evaluating and modifying church programs as deemed necessary.
– Adept at building consensus among congregation.
– Oversee all religious education programs to ensure programs and curricula are in keeping with the overall goals and philosophies of First Baptist Church of Theodore.
– Consistently strive to develop preaching and teaching methods that inspire and challenge spiritual growth of the congregation with the ability to make the gospel attractive to members and visitors.
– Conduct weddings, funeral services and baby dedications.
– Computer and software proficiency- Microsoft Office applications. Good knowledge of how to utilize the internet and/or a willingness to learn.
– Maintain predictable office schedule.
– Conduct new membership classes as needed for those interested in joining First Baptist Church of Theodore and instruct those who seek conversions to faith.
– Pursue continuing education opportunities.
– Attend the annual Southern Baptist Convention when possible.
Accountability
The Pastor’s and all ministerial staff’s performance will be evaluated annually and will be based on the duties outlined in the job description.
